Administrative HistoryWest Park Museum, Macclesfield, was founded and endowed by Miss Marianne Brocklehurst and her brother Peter Pownall Brocklehurst. The project was announced publicly in 1897 as part of the Borough's celebrations of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, but it had been planned for some years before then. the object ot the Museum was to "afford educational advantages and give instructive recreation to the people of Macclesfield", with a collection of works of art, geological specimens and Egyptian and other oriental curios.
