Administrative HistoryThe National Rivers Authority (North West Region) was created following privitisation of the water industry in 1989 and succeeded the North West Water Authority, itself created following the 1973 Water Act. The offices of both bodies were at Warrington. In 1996 the National Rivers Authority ceased to exist when it was subsumed by the Environment Agency.
