Description | LICENCE by Sir John Warburton of Areley Kt., Dame Marye his wife, and Peter Warburton esq., their son and heir; reciting that whereas Sir John Savage intends to enlarge his park called CLIFTON PARK, and for that purpose to lay and add certain lands called the Holts, bordering on the Manor of SUTTON, parcel of the inheritance of the said Sir John Warburton, and divided from the said Manor by a brook called Plidbrok; and that he has no convenient place for erecting a hedge for enclosure of the said lands for the sure keeping of the deer within the same, now the said Sir John Warburton, Dame Marye and Peter Warburton grant him licence to erect a pale, hedge or other defence on the land of the said Sir John Warburton within the Manor of Sutton, adjoining the Plidbrok and within the boundaries specified (in considerable detail); with DEMISE for 40 years of the said lands and of their part of the Plidbrok as far as such Pale shall extend, and liberty to cut the ground and underwood; at an annual rent of a buck in Summer and a doe in Winter if so demanded; there are provisoes that the said Sir John Savage shall not erect any mill dam on the said Plidbrook and that he is to carry out the necessary repairs if, because of the cutting away of the bank, any of it is brought down by the violence of the water through the Plidbrook or otherwise.
