Descriptioninforming him of the capture of Edinburgh by the rebels on 17 Sep. To counter the rebel advance Sir John Cope had landed at Dunbar and directions had been sent to the lords’ lieutenant of the far northern counties to arm against possible attack. Information is given that several regiments under General Whentworth were coming North-two regiments of Dutch troops sailing to Newcastle and regiments from the army in Flanders sailing from Williamstadt to their aid. Enclosed in original is a copy of a warrant signed by the King to aid the raising of the militia in the earl's own domain.
