DescriptionPapers collected by Mr Frank Bell of Timperley (died 1963), parish clerk, assistant overseer and rate collector for Timperley and Baguley for many years. Most of the historical notes belonged to Lt Colonel C E Newton, a civil engineer, whose father, John Newton, owned Timperley Park. They both played an active part in local affairs, C E Newton being overseer of Timperley. Includes Baguley parish papers, 1731-1830, relating to apprenticeship, poor law, militia, navy, township rates and accounts (/1-12); papers of John Newton relating to Altrincham sewage and cemetery, c1891, Mayoralty and Mayor's Land Charity, c1880-1888, and Altrincham Free Public Library, c1890-1894 (/13-15); miscellaneous papers and newscuttings of C E Newton (/16-31); and plans of Timperley and Timperley Park (32-38).
