Administrative History | Samuel Finney, the eldest son of Samuel Finney II, was baptised at Wilmslow, 13 Feb. 1718/9. He studied law for a while and then became a miniature painter in London. In 1763 he was appointed miniature painter to Queen Charlotte (see D.N.B.). He gradually paid off the debts with which the Fulshaw estate had been encumbered by his father. He gave up his profession and settled at Fulshaw in 1769. In 1770 he was made Justice of the Peace for the county of Cheshire. By 1785 he had compiled a history of the parish of Wilmslow, in which a record of his own family was included. He died in 1798. He was twice married, his second wife being Martha, but left no children. |
