Description | The Agden estate centred on property held in Agden, Millington, Mere, Statham, High Leigh, Horton, Hartford, Knutsford and Lymm but few details of individual properties are given in the deeds. (The Statham and Mere property was acquired in 1502, see DVA 1/3,4). Property in the Whiston, Prescot, Halsnead and Ditton areas of Lancashire were acquired by the marriage of George Venables with Margaret Browne. Property at Woolstonecroft, Agden, was added to the estate in 1732 when Philip Touchet Chetwode (whose father had bought the property) married Elizabeth Venables, daughter and heiress of George Venables. Stray documents relating to land in Kinderton, Witton, Eccleston, Middlewich, Northwich etc (DVA 1/2) relate to Venables of Kinderton, to whose land the Venables of Agden laid claim until c1588 |
