Administrative History | An account of the development of Methodism in Congleton is given in 'Methodism in Congleton: A History of the Wagg Street and the Kinsey Street Circuits in Congleton and the surrounding Area' by Joan P. Alcock (1968). Dates of alteration in the Circuits are as follows:-
1943 - Congleton Queen Street (former Methodist New Connexion) Chapel tranferred from Burslem Circuit to Wagg Street Circuit.
1969 - Congleton Circuit formed from:- Wagg Street (former Wesleyan) Circuit, except Biddulph section, which was transferred to Biddulph and Mow Cop Circuit; Kinsey Street (former Primitive Methodist) Circuit, except Mow Cop and Newtown Chapels, which were transferred to Biddulph and Mow Cop Circuit; and Kent Green Chapel, which was transferred to Tunstall Circuit. |
