Administrative History | Warrington Rural District Council was created in 1894. Previously it had been governed by Warrington Rural Sanitary District from 1872. The Rural District Council comprised the townships of Burtonwood, Cuerdley, Houghton, Middleton and Arbury, Penketh, Poulton with Fearnhead, Rixton with Glazebrook, Great Sankey, Little Sankey, Southworth with Croft, Winwick with Hulme and Woolston with Martinscroft. In 1933 Southworth with Croft, Middleton and Arbury, Winwick with Hulme and Woolston with Martinscroft were dissolved and Croft, Winwick and Woolston were added. With Local Government reorganisation in 1974 the rural district was transferred from Lancashire to Cheshire and amalgamated with Warrington Borough Council to form the new Warrington Borough Council. |
