Administrative History | An ancient parish church (formerly dedicated to St. Leonard), originally serving the townships of Taxal and Yeardsley cum Whaley (Whaley Bridge), which were transferred from Derbyshire to Cheshire in 1935. In 1921 the parish was extended to include Kettleshulme (formerly served by Saltersford parish). In 1966 it was further extended to include parts of the Derbyshire parishes of Fernilee and Chapel-en-le-Frith, to create the united parish of Taxal with Fernilee. In 1985 the parish was renamed Whaley Bridge. For later records, see also Disley, Fernilee and Whaley Bridge. |
