DescriptionJurors as P51/18/19 say on oath before commissioners that Edward Bathoe of Chester, alderman, by will, 14 Nov 1628, left to Hugh Leigh a plot of land in Foregate Street, £40 for building a house on it, £100 to be used for taking 4 apprentices of the next of kin of Edward Bathoe and making them free and giving each of them a cloak and new suit on leaving apprenticeship, and Hugh Leigh was to pay the exors. 40s. yearly, viz. 10s. for a sermon at St. John's church, 10s. for a banquet for the mayor, 20s. to 'Poore Spinners & Workfolks by 6d. a piece'; that Hugh Leigh did not pay any of this and after his decease his sister Katherine, widow of William Garrett allowed her son William to possess the land etc. and that he paid 20s.; that in 1650 Thomas Bathoe of Whitchurch, co. Salop, proved himself heir of Edward Bathoe; that in 1656 he sold the premises to William Bristowe of Chester, tanner, who has not carried out the will of Edward Bathoe
