DescriptionThe examination of John Wilkinson (Labourer) age 25. John Wilkinson said that he was born in Barnshaw cum Goostrey where his father Darius, was settled. When he was 12 the Overseers of the Poor of Barnshaw cum Goostrey placed him with Mr Peter Kennerley of Church Hulme as a Servant, where he stayed for 3 years. He then worked for Charles Vernon as a Chaise Driver for 1 year staying in Holmes Chapel. He continued to work for Mr Vernon in Warrington for a further 6 months and returned to stay at Mr Vernons house for a further 3 months. He then, still working for Mr Vernon went to the Cock Inn in Great Budworth for 1 year.He was sent for six weeks during this time ,to the House of Correction at Middlewich for fathering a Bastard Child. He then married Mary the mother of the child and continued to work for Mr Vernon but still in Little Budworth. He then returned to Holmes Chapel still working for Mr Vernon until the latter end of November last. He had not done any act since to gain settlement.
