DescriptionIncludes transcripts of will of John Percyvale, school charters,annd deeds etc., 1503-52, including particular of the Prebends Lands in Chester, formerly part of the pssessions of the College of St John the Baptist; counsel's opinion re application of school funds and appointment of extra staff; 1762; Parliamentary petition for Bill to amend foundation charter, 1773 and copy of Act 1774 (14 George III c51).
Also includes survey and valuation of school estates in Macclesfield (c170 acres, 9 maps), Chester (c60 acres in Boughton, Flookersbrook, Nicholas Street etc, 2 maps), Mottram St. Andrew (68 acres, 2 maps) and Nantwich, 1775, with plans (title page decorated with drawing of the school house); maps show field boundaries, hedgerows, buildings in block plan, roads, names of neighbouring landowners; fields lettered with separate tables of reference recording name of tenement/tenant, field names, and statute and Cheshire acreages; compass points; pen and ink with grey colour wash; scale 1 inch: 4 chains (1:3168) apart from urban properties in Macclesfield ( 1 inch: 2 chains, 1:1084) and Chester ( 1 inch: 10 yards, 1:1080). The surveyor is not named but the accounts (SP 3/8/5) record a payment on 19 April 1776 to "Mr Boydell for measuring and mapping £12 -17s-7d"
