Purchased from Edward Rigg in 1907.
This site was originally occupied by a brewery but after its purchase by the Rev. Arthur Rigg, first principal of Chester College, it is listed in Phillipson and Golders' Directory for Chester, 1878-9. as occupied by James Rigg, engineer and ironfounder, his father's partner in the family concern. By 1907 it was used as a timber yard. The Corporation acquired it for the purposes of building George Street Council School which was opened in 1908 and closed in 1948.
