Administrative HistoryPurchased from the trustees of the Chester Municipal Charities in 1901.
A Fire Station occupied part of this site in 1877 but the rest of the land was then occupied by the old Potato Market. The adjoining Valentine's Court at this time consisted of nine cottages, a blacksmith's shop and a stable, with a shop fronting Northgate St. By 1901, the land which had formed the Potato Market had been added to what was then described as 'the Public Fire Engine Station', five of the nine cottages in Valentine's Court had been demolished and the blacksmith's shop and stable converted into a washhouse and a warehouse respectively. In 1911 it was referred to as 'a new Fire Engine Station' and was in use until 1969. The property was sold by the Corporation in 1973
