DescriptionThis manuscript includes the pedigree of the Earls of Chester from the first, Hugh Lupus (cr 1070, d1101) to the death of John Scot, the last Earl, in 1232. (ff1-3); pedigree of the Kings of Scotland from Malcolm to Alexander III (d1286) (ff4-6); descent of the de Quincy earls of Winchester (ff7-8); descent of Thomas Earl of Lancaster (1278-1322) (ff9-11) Ff 12-15 show the descent of the Mortimers to Edmund lord Mortimer (d1332); this section appears to be incomplete. It includes an illustration showing Earl Hugh I in his Cheshire 'parliament'. The manuscript is believed to have been compiled in the late 16th century and acquired by Lord William Howard of Naworth, Cumberland (1563-1640). It was later owned by the Chester Mechanics' Institute.
