Description | These are letters and copy letters pertaining to the mayor as Chester's chief official, or to the Assembly as Chester's governing body. They are an important source for Chester's relations with central government, especially with the Privy Council. There are also letters to and from Chester's members of parliament and to and from other cities. In the 1930s, individual documents were bound into four large volumes which cover the years 1546 to 1714 (ML/1-4). There are also a large number of unbound documents covering the years 1550 to 1716, which have been assigned the references ML/5-7. Although physically separated, a typescript calendar has brought together documents which relate to the same business. |
