Description | Statutory Authorities were established by Acts of Parliament to undertake specific administrative functions in a particular area. They developed largely in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, to supplement the work of existing bodies. Their powers were gradually absorbed by local authorities after the Municipal Corporations Act, 1835 and subsequent local government Acts. |
