Description | Former orders reaffirmed, concerning sueing in foreign courts; the sale of goods in bulk; the buying of goods for the use of strangers; and the practising of any craft, or retailing, without being free of the appropriate occupation; intermeddling with an occupation other than one's own; admission of apprentices into the freedom; order of precedence in the Assembly; upkeep of pavements; levying of fines; the keeping of Treasurers' Accounts; [and the frequenting by Aldermen etc. of ale houses - deleted]. Certain alterations and additional orders are made; that in future no person be admitted into the freedom without the backing of eight Aldermen, of whom four are to be Justices; that no wife, widow or maid keep a tavern or ale house; that all Justices must, before Dec. 25th. next, provide tippets and murrey gowns for themselves, and wear them on Sundays, and that all other Aldermen must likewise provide murrey gowns; (ZA/B/1/132) and that all Aldermen, Sheriffs, Sheriff Peers and Leevelookers are to pay 10d. every quarter to the Leevelookers, as a contribution to the customary shot or drinking ceremony held by them every Sunday in the Pentice.
