TitleCloth trade; levying of fines; financing port

DescriptionReport by the Mayor on the financial aspect of the making of cloth, with a view to the best use being made of the two hundred marks, left to the City by Wairseley; he considers "Shrowsburie dossens" can be made economically in the City, and reports that four shearmen, Robert Moderly, Gruff Dodd, Arthur Chauntrell and Christopher Walker, have offered to take the money for that purpose, for the next seven years, accounting for it yearly. Ordered that a covenant be drawn up accordingly.
The offer of one George Sherington of Preston, to set up in the City as a maker of Kentish cloth, on condition of being admitted to the freedom of the City, is accepted.
All former orders concerning the levying of fines (none of which appear to have had any effect on the Sheriffs) to be annulled; (ZA/B/1/167) in future all fines to be collected by the Sheriffs in strict accordance with the terms of the charter, and two of the more senior members of the Assembly to be appointed each year to receive the accounts after each Sessions or Crownmote.
A petition to be sent to the Lord Treasurer and the Earl of Leicester, for a grant from the royal customs at Chester towards the cost of furnishing the new haven; William Glaseor, the Vice-Chamberlain, undertakes to use his best endeavours in the suit.
In future acquittances for the fee farm rent, whether received by Mayor or Sheriff, to be immediately taken to the City Treasury for safe keeping.
William Aldersey, Alderman, acknowledges that he has leased escheat lands from the Mayor which are designed to be for the use of the Mayor for the time being only.
