DescriptionApril 18th. Election of David Lloid, draper, as Alderman, in place of Richard Poole.
Suggested that the profit from the bargain of rye be expended on the walls, an offer having been received to repair them at so much a yard; but Thomas Lyniall insisting that the money is for the relief of the poor or other charitable purposes such as highway repairs, resolved that it be spent on repair of the road to Boughton.
Persons appointed to oversee distribution of a bargain of corn from Milford, which is to be shared by members of the Assembly and freemen.
(ZA/B/1/220v). The Mayor referred to his bretheren, as to whether he, or the executors of his predecessor, ought to receive the Mayor's fees.
William Garret to be admitted, paying £5; Thomas Nicoll, proposed by John Hanky, Alderman, not to be admitted.
The offer of Laurence Dicus to supply the City with lime, accepted.
Rival petitions from the Weavers and the Embroiderers, considered.
Rates laid down to be charged by the porters; John Preece, William Leene, Richard Braband and Thomas Marke appointed porters.
May 2nd. On receipt of a letter from Walsingham, giving learned opinions on the dispute over calves' skins, a committee is appointed to draft a reply, and Thurstan Holinshed chosen to join Lloid in London, taking with him a letter of attorney for them both, to act on the City's behalf.
