DescriptionThe petition of Griffith Dod that execution be stayed against his surety, Alderman Thomas Fletcher, and his offer to pay off the debt in yearly installments, to be considered.
All the sureties of persons holding money under the bequest of Alderman White, to be summoned to bring their covenants for review by the Mayor and his bretheren; special reference to William Rogerson, draper.
All the sergeants and other officials serving the City courts, to be sworn yearly before the Mayor to perform their duties.
The £20 owing from Thurstan Hollinshed, (chosen Queen's Sheriff by the Mayor, although he had not previously been leevelooker) to be remitted in view of his services to the City in London and elsewhere.
Randle Eaton, one of the four sergeants, not to be disfranchised for his [unspecified] offences, but to lose his office and various privileges and perquisites enjoyed by him.
(ZA/B/1/226v). The fees of the three remaining sergeants, the Sergeant-of-the-Peace and the Swordbearer, are reviewed and confirmed. Future holders of their offices, however, are not to enjoy the tolls of corn and malt from the markets. Any Mayor infringing this order to pay a fine of £100.
Imported coal to be sold by the City's standard barrel measure; Thomas Throp, one of the sergeants, to have four such barrels in readiness, and to receive 4d. of every boat-load.
The 5/- paid respectively to the Sergeant -of-the-Peace and the Swordbearer by every stranger on his admission to the freedom, to be paid in future to the Muragers for the repair of the new haven; (ZA/B/1/227) they are also to receive that quarter of toll corn etc. previously enjoyed by Randle Eaton, to be used for the repair of the walls, which are much decayed.
