Description | Election of Henry Hardware, gentleman., son of the late Alderman Henry Hardware, and John Litler, draper, as Councilmen in place of the new Sheriffs. Auditors are appointed. The last year's auditors having found that Thomas Harebottle and John Williams [Sheriffs in 1587] owe £5 from their period of office, agreed that, in the absence of Harebottle, Williams to pay only half the debt. Williams' claim to have spent nearly £5 in London on the City's behalf, and Christopher Goodman's claim for money spent on the conduit, to be investigated by the new auditors. On the petition of Randle Eaton for the restoration of the fourth part of the toll of corn, he is granted £3 6 8 a year in lieu, and back payment for the two previous years. Robert Smith, goldsmith, to have two thirds of his fine of £10 remitted, on the payment of the remainder and on his submission to the late Mayor. (see f. ZA/B/1/233 above). On the petition of Griffith Dodd for a small rebate on his debt, a request not considered proper to be granted, agreed that a collection be made for his relief. (ZA/B/1/236v). The Sheriffs to collect the fines and make the usual payments.
