Date16 Dec 1598
DescriptionThe Sheriffs are instructed to collect all fines and amercements, remitting none except with the permission of the Mayor for the time being, and two Justices (fine, £20). Slackness in collection of the fines has led to the non - observance of the Assize of ale and beer, non - appearance of jurors, and the general encouragement of offenders.
The Aldermen are reminded to inspect their wards regularly, and the Sheriffs are to make regular inspections of the whole City.
A piece of ground and a house, lying between the Watergate and the New Tower, granted to Jeffrey Cooke, waterbailiff, for so long as he continues in that office, and on condition he also supervises the discharging of ballast at the new quay near the Watergate.
Henry Gunner, slater, to be permitted to exercise his trade in the City, in spite of the opposition of the Slaters.
