Description(Thomas Thornton, Mayor.). The Stewards of every occupation to enter into bond not to admit any person who is not already a freeman; all merchants trading in the City to be constrained to enter the freedom. The order recites the rates of fines for admission, and forbids the admission of any person from "Vowre" [Abbey precincts.].
Bakers to observe the assize of bread, as given to them by the Mayor for the time being, to bring their marks into the Pentice, and all to be members of the Bakers' Occupation, (fine, 40/-, to be employed for the benefit of the Bakers); provided they bake sufficient for the whole City, they are also to have a monopoly in the making of "craknell kakes"; and a division of privileges to be maintained between bakers who keep inns, and innkeepers who bake bread.
