Description | Report of further action taken concerning the mitigation of customs. At an Assembly held on Jan. 10th., William Jewytt is chosen to present another petition, and the Mayor offers his support at his own cost [thus the same two merchants are employed as previously.]. They this time obtain a letter under the Privy Seal, dated Feb. 28th., and addressed to the Treasurer and other Officials of the Exchequer, and to the Customs Officials at Chester. (ZA/B/1/99). This letter gives a clear description of the special customs taken at Chester, (ZA/B/1/100) and orders that their old customs are to stand, but that an equivalent allowance is to be made in the amounts to be paid under the new, national customs. i.e. in future merchants at Chester will pay the same total amount as elsewhere in the country. |
