DescriptionRichard Haworth, Recorder, who had often been desired to reside in the City for the execution of his office, declared that he could not do so with convenience and therefore he resigned his office.
John Ratcliffe, esq., Alderman, was unanimously elected Recorder and it was ordered that he should be paid the annual fee of £13: 6s: 8d. He appeared and took the usual oath in open Assembly.
(ZA/B/2/113v). It was ordered that the present Sheriffs should pay to Mr Recorder Ratcliffe 45s. for his future advice to them, as they had already paid 45s. to Recorder Haworth. All succeeding Sheriffs were to pay the Recorder the yearly fee of £4: 10s.
Mr Haworth was also elected to be of the City's learned Counsel and the Treasurers were to pay him the yearly fee of £2: 13s: 4d.
Members of the Assembly who had frequently been absent were ordered to appear at the next Assembly and give satisfactory excuse for their absence or else be discharged from membership.
