The Company of Butchers had lately commenced several suits against the county butchers, who were accustomed to bring victuals to Chester market, because they had not served an apprenticeship of seven years to the trade. It was unanimously ordered that all persons who usually brought good victuals to supply the market of the City and who were prosecuted for not having served a seven year apprenticeship should be defended by the City. Nine members were appointed auditors of the City accounts and were to meet on every Tuesday and Thursday in the Inner Pentice until the accounts had been audited. (ZA/B/2/124). It was ordered that William Ley, ironmonger, should be granted a new lease of a shop under the Pentice, then in his possession, for twenty-one years for £5 fine and the accustomed yearly rent of 40s. |
