Description | In consideration of the urgent need for raising money, every Justice of the Peace of the City was charged to lend 40s, the rest of the Aldermen and the Sheriffs 20s. each, every Sheriff peer 13s: 4d, and every other Councilman 10s. The monies were to be collected by George Baggott, the Swordbearer, and paid to the Treasurers, to be disposed of by the Mayor's order for the use of the City. All loans were to be repaid. William Wright, Alderman, John Witter, William Street, Thomas Fernihaughe, Richard Bridge and Edward Burroughes petitioned for release from imprisonment. In undertaking the command of two Companies of soldiers they had had no aim but obedience to the City. It was ordered that endeavours should be made as they desired. Ralph Davenport, gentleman, Clerk of the Pentice, was granted liberty to employ George Bulkeley, gentleman, as his Deputy in his office. |
