Description | The Mayor informed that Mr Calvin Bruen had resigned his office of Alderman. The Assembly therefore discharged him from the place. Charles Earl of Derby was admitted to the freedom and was elected Alderman in the stead of Calvin Bruen. In a petition the Company of Weavers and Clothiers showed that for many years their Company had held the Newhouse in the City. Now John Barker, a stranger, enjoyed the benefit of the house, although the petitioners could and would employ more poor and others at work than he did. They prayed that they might have the house. The petition was referred to the Mayor and the Justices of the Peace or any four of them. |
