DescriptionRichard Levinge, esq., learned in the law, who was appointed Alderman, Justice of the Peace and Recorder by the Commissioners on September 26th last, was now unanimously approved of and was admitted to the freedom. He took the usual oaths.
John Phillipps, gentleman, who was appointed Councilman by the same Commissioners, was now unanimously admitted to the freedom.
Upon the petition of John Maughan, servant to Sir Edward Savage, kt., and upon reading a letter from his master, he was admitted to the freedom "paying therefore as an apprentice doth usually pay".
Robert Meacock, upholsterer, who was recommended by George, Lord Bishop of Chester, was admitted to the freedom, paying £3.
Philip Horton, trunkmaker, was admitted to the freedom and was to pay therefore as an apprentice.
John Lingley, Swordbearer, desired to have the same benefit from the Shambles as George Bagott, late Swordbearer, had. His petition was granted.
(ZA/B/2/138v) Randle Minshull, Macebearer, petitioned to have the collection of the toll paid by every foreigner buying beasts in the City, the toll of the several gates, stallages and other duties as Randle Richardson, late Macebearer, enjoyed them. It was ordered that he should have these duties at the accustomed yearly rent, viz: to the Treasurers £8, to the four Sheriffs' Officers 20s. apiece, to Hamnet Kirks, one of the four Sergeants-at-Mace and Keeper of the Eastgate, 20s. a year, towards the payment of 40s. yearly payable to John Crew of Crew, esq. by Hamnet Kirks for his place.
Ann Newport, widow, desired to be continued tenant to the City of Duntsfords meadow near Stanford Bridge at the former yearly rent of £5: 10s. The Treasurers were ordered to survey the meadow and to report its true yearly value to the next Assembly.
The petition of Peter Bostock desiring to be admitted as tenant of a parcel of waste ground at Dee side was absolutely refused.
