Description | Thomas Hand, draper, elected a Councilman in the stead of Richard Key, deceased. He took the oaths and subscribed the declaration. Colonel Roger Whitley esq. and Mr William Ravenscroft were chosen freemen. Joseph Whittle, student and undergraduate of Brasenose College, son of John Whittle, late of the City of Chester, ironmonger, was awarded the yearly exhibition of £5 devised by Robert Offley, for a place in the University of Oxford. Samson Shelley, Hallkeeper, petitioned for a grant of an enclosure or parcel of ground adjoining the Common Hall, also that he might have the benefit of an ancient light from the said enclosure into that part of the Hall where the scales were placed. It was decided that enquries should be made to discover who had a right to the enclosure. Some of those present remembered that there had been an ancient door with a window over it leading into the Hall, which was now stopped up. It was ordered that this ancient light should be forthwith opened. |
