DescriptionJohn Lancaster, ironmonger, was elected Councilman in the stead of George Meacocke, deceased. He was summoned to take the oaths and subscribe the declaration mentioned in the Act for the well governing and regulating of corporations, but he appeared and refused to subscribe the declaration. The Assembly therefore declared his election void and imposed a fine of £40 upon him.
Richard Higginson, beerbrewer, elected Councilman in the stead of George Meacocke, deceased.
John Poole, son of Ellen Poole, and Charles Jones were to be admitted to the freedom provided each paid £20 on that same day.
John Lewes, glover, was to have a lease for three lives of a piece of waste ground near the Glovers' houses for the yearly rent of 20s.
(ZA/B/2/174v) It was ordered that Randle Hulme, painter, should pay the yearly rent of 5s. from Michaelmas 1671, in consideration of an encroachment upon the City by his new house in Bridgstreet.
William Crompton, John Poole and Richard Taylor, Aldermen and Justices of the Peace, and Thomas Simpson, Alderman, were desired to view what encroachments had been made upon the City land by buildings in the streets or rows and were to report to the next Assembly. In the meantime all growing encroachments must be stopped.
