TitlePetitions, elections, orders, Neston market
Date7 Sep 1677
DescriptionRichard Taylor the elder, glasier, elected Councilman in the stead of Valentine Gamull, haberdasher, deceased. He took the oaths and subscribed the declaration.
The house was informed that great endeavours were being made to procure a royal patent for setting up a market and fairs at Nesson [Neston] which, if effected, would tend to the overthrow of Chester's trade. It was agreed that a humble supplication should be made to the King to prevent or to recall this patent.
The Treasurers were ordered to inquire into the value of the house and lands in Gilden Sutton which Thomas Wright, ironmonger, had petitioned to have. They were also to consider the value of the house and ground near St. John's church at Dee side which Samuel Broster and Robert Okell petitioned for; (ZA/B/2/186v) and were to view a piece of ground without the Barrs where the Mayor wished to build a barn.
All Aldermen and Councilmen who had not yet brought in the plate due upon their admission to office were to do so upon pain of 20s. fine.
The gentlemen named in an order of April 27th last for viewing encroachments on the City's waste were to perform this task so that they could report to the next Assembly upon pain of 20s. for everyone who defaulted.
Upon a further petition from Colonel Robert Werden it was declared that no more would be granted to him than the row before his houses in Foregate street.
The petition of Elizabeth Throppe, widow, was read but not granted.
