Description | Peter Leighe, ironmonger, elected Alderman. (ZA/B/2/83). John Jones, gentleman, elected Town Clerk, Clerk of the Pentice, Clerk of the Crown moote, Port moote and of the Peace, of the County Court and other courts belonging to the City. (ZA/B/2/83v). Blank. (ZA/B/2/84). Peter Leighe elected Alderman. George Baggott, Swordbearer, petitioned that, since he had had great losses by fire in time of war, as a further allowance he might enjoy the benefit of the Shambles as his predecessor, Edward Fitton, had done. His petition was granted. In a petition subscribed by many citizens complaint was made that many foreigners kept inns and victualling houses in the City and sold ale and beer by retail. It was agreed that such foreigners should be summoned to the Inner Pentice to show why they should not desist. William Smyth, shearman, elected Mayor's porter in place of Adam Kaine, deceased. Auditors were appointed to take the City's accounts. (ZA/B/2/84v). Christopher Halwood, Richard Chantrell, Edward Bromley and Edward Fisher "by lott or ballettinge" were chosen as almsmen of John Vernon, in succession to Hugh Halliwell, Henry Trafford, Richard Greggory and William Weston, lately deceased. The order made in Mr. Hankie's mayoralty concerning penalties for absence from Assembly was to be put into execution. |
