Description | Members of the Assembly, who, having been warned, failed to appear, were to be fined. Hugh Harvie, glover, petitioned for a grant of a little parcel of ground upon Hough Green leading from the wind mill to the river side, and desired to enclose it. It was decided that Aldermen Randle Holmes, William Ince, Edward Bradshawe and William Bennett, the Treasurers and Mr. Thomas Ashton should view the land and report to the Mayor and Justices. (ZA/B/2/99). John Kinge and Katherine his wife petitioned for remission of their forfeiture for failing to appear at the Crownmoote after having entered into recognizances for their appearance. Since they had ended the controversy between them and Richard Fox their apprentice, they thought their appearance would not be expected. It was decided that their forfeiture should be reduced to 20s. Since the City's privileges had been infringed and suits had therefore arisen, and others were likely to arise, it was ordered that an assessment should be made upon the freemen and the money used to maintain the City's rights. Six assessors were appointed and the Constables were to be collectors. |
