TitleElections; almsmen; raising of men for defence of the City

DescriptionDaniel Greatebatch, ironmonger, and James Ravenscrofte, apothecary, elected Common Councilmen in place of William Crompton and John Johnson, Sheriffs.
Nicholas Ince, Christopher Blease, Randle Hulme the elder, Aldermen, Richard Broster, William Parnell and Edward Evans appointed as auditors for the year.
Roger Hancocke, taylor, chosen by lot to be one of the almsmen of John Vernon, late citizen and merchant taylor of London, in place of John Welshman, baker, lately deceased.
In consideration of the "the apparent and present dangers that are upon this land", it was ordered that, for the defence of the City, three hundred men, inhabitants of the City, should be raised (besides the Trained band), and that they should be armed with muskets and their appurtenances. List of sixty-one persons each of whom freely undertook to provide from one to three muskets. Mr. Mayor, Mr. Recorder and the rest of his brethren to decide how the remainder of the 300 muskets should be raised.
