Description | Petition of William Smyth, 'cloathworker,' stating that he was a freeman and during 'the late distraccions in this kingdome' had his house in Handbridge burned to the ground, which, with permission from the Governors, he built up again at great cost, but shortly afterwards when the Mount began to be framed, his house was pulled down by the soldiers and the timber and other appurtenances carried away for building within the Mount. In addition to these losses, he was deprived of employment as the Walkers' milnes had been burned down during the siege, therefore he asked to be appointed Mayor's Porter in place of Adam Kaine, deceased. Note that he was to be appointed. |
