Description | Petition of George Bredbury, stating that he married the widow of John Bastwell, late citizen and innholder of Chester. He claims by a late Act that he may exercise any trade in any corporation having served for 4 years and upwards for the present government in the late wars, as shown by a certificate from Colonel Duckenfield and others. He has used the trade of an inkeeper but the Company of Innholders commenced an action against him in the Pentice Court of the City in the name of the Mayor and Citizens, which was a style never before used in such cases. He petitioned the late Mayor who, as the company had no leave or grounds for the action, on payment of certain costs released the action and ordered a stay of proceedings. The company have revived the action and sued out execution. He asks that the order of the late Mayor be observed although he is ready to answer the company if they bring any action in their own names. Note of order and voting, that the petitioner shall pay 40s to the Innholders. |
