TitlePhotograph: Bench end and elbow - the Deans stall.
Date1903
DescriptionThis bench end is very fine. It represents a Jesse Tree, a favourite subject with medieval workers. There are in all twentyseven figures carved on it; no doubt its beautiful state of preservation is due to the figures being in low relief, an not projecting as carvings usually are. The poppy head on this bench end is very fine, quite equal to anything in the Choir. The elbow represents the Palmer Pilgrim and his staff - 14th century.
