Description | On July 30th 1904 at 2.15pm, a special military service was held in Chester Cathedral, durintg which service the above colours were handed to the Dean (Darby) and Chapter. Lieutenant N.G. Turner being in charge of the Queen's colour and Lieutenant F.M. Clarke that of the regiment, Lieutenent Colonel Neville D.S.O. addressing the Dean said: "On behalf of the Cheshire regiment I commit these colours, for over fifty years treasurerd by the battaliomn to your keeping. We depart on foreign service and we feel this Cathedral is the proper resting place". Having been (indirectly) the means of the colours being presented to our grand old Cathedral - I feel this to be a red letter day in my life F.S. |
