| Description | This memorial was formally handed over by Colonel Ommanney, to the Cathedral authorities at the same service as the 2nd Battalion's colours. Lord Roberts unveiled the tablet, Purcel's music for the funeral of Queen Mary II (1695) and ' Point of War' were rendered by organ and band, the solemn cadences stirring emotions in the hearts of the vast congregation present. Onward Christian Soldiers was then sung. I think it was the most beautiful service I have ever been present at, and having had a small share in helping the matter forward especially in its early stages my heart felt glad indeed on this ever to be remembered day. |
