TitlePhotograph: Bosses in the graining of the north walk.
Daten.d.
Description13th and 14th boss from the west end of the north walk of the cloisters. The Abbot John Birchenshawe being deprived in 1529, his place was filled for a brief space of time by Thomas Marshall. We find on the two bosses above - T.M. one of them (the 14th boss) incorporated with his arms. The Abbots and at a later period the Bishops, seem to have adopted the wolf's head, the crest of Hugh Lupus, generally known as the first Earl of Chester.
