Description | 13th and 14th boss from the west end of the north walk of the cloisters. The Abbot John Birchenshawe being deprived in 1529, his place was filled for a brief space of time by Thomas Marshall. We find on the two bosses above - T.M. one of them (the 14th boss) incorporated with his arms. The Abbots and at a later period the Bishops, seem to have adopted the wolf's head, the crest of Hugh Lupus, generally known as the first Earl of Chester. |
