Administrative History | This society, a precursor of the Chester Natural History Society was founded on 27 November 1812 `for the acquirement and diffusion of literature and science' at a meeting in Commercial Rooms. J.D. Siddall, The Chester Society of Natural Science, Literature and Art from 1871 to 1911, p6, states that `This society met in various rooms in the City; and Papers were read and discussed; and a Laboratory for Chemical work was fitted up... Apparently the Society collapsed after that date, having existed barely one year'. |
