Administrative History | This organisation originated as H.R.H. The Prince of Wales National Relief Fund, which was established in August 1914 to deal with distress which might occur in the city owing to the war. District committees were formed soon after and the name Council of Social Welfare was adopted. The Council organised its own relief and also worked with other charitable organisations such as the Chester Charity Organisations Committee, Chester Soup Kitchen Charity and military charities including the Solders' Sailors' and Airmen's Families Association. In the 1970s, it was dissolved and reconstituted as Chester Council of Community Service and Citizens' Advice Bureau. |
