Administrative HistoryWelsh and Midland Command, which became Western Command in 1906, was a military district. After 1906, it comprised Cheshire, Cumberland, Herefordshire, Lancashire, Monmouthshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Westmorland and Wales. The specialist sanitary officer was adviser to the principal medical officer, who in turn advised the general officer commanding in chief.
