Description | Note: according to information supplied by the Shropshire Record Office, Thomas Harrison may have submitted plans for Willey Park. However, if this was the case, the designs were not executed, for the present Willey Park was designed by Lewis Wyatt (c.1778-1853) in 1813-1815. Alternatively, the Shropshire Record Office suggests, Harrison may have drawn up plans for the alteration of Dothill Park, the other seat of the Foresters, which Lord Forester occupied until Willey Park was ready. According to H.E. Forrest, Some Old Houses of Shropshire and their owners, Dothill House had a front of brick with stone facings dated c.1820. Stanley Leighton, who drew the house about 1900, stated that `plans were made, but not carried out, for building on an extensive scale here'. It is not known on what evidence he based this remark. |
