Administrative HistoryWirral Union was the first poor law union to be formed in Cheshire in 1836, following the Poor Law Amendment Act, 1834. In 1861, nine townships were transferred from it to form the Birkenhead Union. Wirral Union was dissolved after the Local Government Act, 1929.
