Lawrence Downes of Worth in the county of Chester, Esq, an infant of the age of 11 years, son and heir of Roger Downes late of Worth, Esq., dcsd., petitions by Anne Downes his mother and guardian, for a writ of subpoena to issue directed to Thomas Stapleton of Vpton [Upton], Esq., to appear before the Chamberlain to prove by what title he holds an estate which Lawrence claims is wrongfully alienated from his possession by Thomas Stapleton, whereas it should have passed to Lawrence Downes as son & heir; also that Thomas Stapleton shall cause to be shown the muniments of title to this estate, which he has wrongfully appropriated and withheld from Lawrence's possession in order to hinder Lawrence's claim to title to messuages, lands, tenements in Vpton [Upton], county of Chester, occupied by Thomas Stapleton of Vpton [Upton], Esq, in which Roger Downes died seised, annual value £9.3s.10d., in his demesne as of fee.
