TitleCopy of a letter to Sir G. Warren's Steward from Edward Downes
Date21 May 1791

I choose to inform You myself, that [You have been exceedingly] 'I [highly disapproved of your] am very much displeased at your' officiousness [& impertinent] about the 'present' business [in question] Both Mr.Wright & I, instead of agreeing to the road by Goddard's being stopped, as You [told] 'informed' the Magistrates we did, & instead of accepting any exchange for the waste, told You that we could not suffer any thing to be done, or receive any proposals, till the road by the Chapel was made thoroughly good & laid open, & then I should be ready to treat with your Master. Your assurance also [cannot pass unnoticed] 'was (.....)', to tell [us] 'Mr. Wright & Me' that Mr. Davenport had agreed to give up his right to the road, who says He has never even been consulted on the business; & that my Father had promised his consent, which You very well know to be a falsehood. I choose 'to write' to Sir George [Warren] myself, & my messuage to You was not to claim promises from me, & not to interfere with my 'rights &' property [& rights] in any shape at your peril, as any orders You have received from Sir George must have been in consequence of your false representations to Him.

Edward Downes.
